Borealis for MN ("the campaign," "we," "us") respects the privacy of every supporter, volunteer, and visitor to borealisformn.org. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices available to you, including for text message (SMS) communications.

Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly, including:

  • Name and contact information (email address, mailing address, phone number)
  • Volunteer and event sign-up details
  • Donation information, processed through ActBlue
  • Any message you send us through a website form, email, or text

We do not collect mobile phone numbers through any method other than a direct, voluntary submission by the individual, such as a website form, email, a written sign-up sheet at an event, or a reply to an outbound text.

How We Use Your Information

  • Send updates about the campaign, including events, volunteer opportunities, and voting information
  • Respond to inquiries
  • Process and acknowledge donations
  • Coordinate volunteer activities
  • Comply with Minnesota campaign finance and election law reporting requirements

Text Messaging (SMS) Program

By providing your mobile number and opting in, you agree to receive text messages from Borealis for MN sent from (651) 565-9656. Message types include campaign updates, event reminders, volunteer coordination, and voting reminders.

You may opt in to this program by visiting borealisformn.org/text-signup, providing your phone number, and checking the box agreeing to receive text messages.

  • Consent: Opting in to receive text messages is never a condition of any purchase, donation, or service.
  • Recurring messages: Messages are recurring, and message frequency varies based on campaign activity and the election calendar.
  • Message and data rates may apply. Your mobile carrier may charge fees for sending or receiving text messages, especially if you do not have an unlimited texting or data plan.
  • Contact: Reach Borealis for MN at (651) 565-9656 or contact@borealisformn.org for HELP or to STOP receiving messages.
  • Opt-out: You can opt out of the SMS list at any time by texting, emailing, or replying STOP or UNSUBSCRIBE to contact@borealisformn.org or (651) 565-9656. After unsubscribing, you will receive a final SMS confirming your opt-out, and we will remove your number from our list within 24 hours. You may reply START to re-subscribe.
  • Help: Reply HELP for additional assistance. You will receive a text including our phone number, email, and website. We are here to help.
  • Carrier liability: Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
No mobile information, including text messaging opt-in data and consent, will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes, under any circumstance. Borealis for MN will not sell, rent, or share your collected mobile number. This information is used solely by Borealis for MN to communicate with you about the campaign.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share information with service providers who perform functions on our behalf, such as our texting platform, email platform, and ActBlue for donation processing, solely for the purpose of delivering those services. These providers are not permitted to use your information for their own marketing purposes. We may also disclose information if required by law, such as under the Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board's reporting requirements for reportable contributions.

Data Security

We protect your data with secure storage measures designed to prevent unauthorized access. No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as needed to communicate with you about the campaign and to meet legal recordkeeping obligations, including those under Minnesota election law. For text messaging specifically, we retain your phone number and opt-in status for as long as you remain subscribed to our SMS program. You may request deletion of your information at any time by contacting us.

Your Choices

  • Opt out of text messages at any time by texting, emailing, or replying STOP or UNSUBSCRIBE
  • Unsubscribe from email at any time using the link in any campaign email
  • Request access to, correction of, or deletion of your information by contacting us
